Hayne’s Furniture

If you were to do a Google search for worst businesses in Virgina Beach, Haynes Furniture would pop up all over the place.  People go out of their way to leave comments and talk about their experiences with this business.

I have had a bad experience as well.  Many years ago I fell for one of their daily “never before offered, sale of the century, you will never see this type of savings again” commercials and my wife and I went to buy a living room set.  Seems we could get one crazy deal and not pay anything for two years… only we did not qualify, even though our credit was very, very good… just not an 800 or whatever perfect is.

The salesman tried to get us another deal, a bait and switch feeling came over me and I walked out of the store, vowing never to return.  Later that night the salesman called, (I had filled out a credit app with my number, remember?) and said he could give us six months same as cash with no interest.

Okay, we took the bait.  As it was explained to us we could get the furniture and not make payments for six months.  After that time we could either pay it off or start making monthly payments.  Sounded good to me so we signed on the dotted line and waited forever to finally get our furniture.

Then, when six months was up, I did not have the money to pay it off so I figured I would get my first month’s bill.  I did get it along with the past six months worth of interest tagged on!  Yes, it was in the very very fine print on about page 30 of the contract but I was stupid and listened to, and believed what the salesman had pitched to us.

It is a runing joke in Virgina Beach about Haynes having another 100 year, sale of the century sale every other day.  I can’t even begin to guess what they spend on television advertising.  How the FTC has not cracked down on this I’ll never know but so long as we are a military town with new victims moving in everyday, Hayne’s Furniture will continue to draw the rath of many a furniture buying customer.

Just be careful and read your contract.  Also, spend some time reading the negative reviews on the Internet and then make your decision.
